AMC BANDS

All of our bands play with verve and energy in the authentic styles. They usually include one or more vocalists and the number of pieces can vary. We encourage guest requests, and happily arrange the play lists to feature your favorites; with advance notice, we will try to play tunes not in our regular repertoires. We do our best to regulate our sound volume according to the needs of the occasion, and your request.

Sultans of Swing  (Sound Clips)

The jazzy sounds of the Big Band era, sweet two-beat society rhythms of the thirties, a full selection of ballroom dances played at the right tempos, dixieland, and even a few rock-beat numbers. Available in a variety of formats from 2-8 pieces, so we can provide you with exactly what you need for your affair, whatever the budget, size of audience, or location.

Sheiks of Dixie  (Sound Clips)

Dixieland for dancing or just toe-tapping, featuring the good old "sing-along" songs, standard favorates, roaring 20's pop tunes, and "traditional" classics, played in a variety of styles. Available in many different formats from 3-8 pieces, some of which are totally mobile. The music can be raucous or soft, depending on the occasion. This flexibility makes the band perfect for any affair, be it a house party, convention, any kind of promotional event, or even a parade.

Red Herring Motel Orch

Classic 1950s Rock 'n' Roll to satisfy the soul, plus, as appropriate, some dixieland and swing tunes played with a rock 'n' roll beat, selected contemporary-beat "oldies" and Motown, and even 50s easy listening hits. 6-7 pieces.  Although, the band uses electronic instruments, and plays with great intensity, it uses the sound amplification system of the acoustic swing band, and therefore, the volume is kept at levels older guests can enjoy, while the younger set gets its kicks.

White Lightning Washboard Band  (Sound Clips)

From the sublime (?) to the ridiculous, this band makes Spike Jones spin in his urn. Featuring a washtub bass, banjo, soprano sax with vocals, and, of course, a washboard, with sound effects and assorted craziness, and the infamous "bucket", the band plays the "old songs" and standard dixieland tunes with a whole 'nother sound.

Dick Parks Novelty Five (or six or seven)

With emphasis on vocals, this good-time band features silly, off-beat, satirical, and just plain funny songs from the 1920s to the 50s. With 2-3 horns, 1-2 banjos, washboard, and washtub bass, and most members playing 2 or more instruments, the band can add dixieland, swing, and even some old cowboy tunes to the mix.

Great American Banjo Band

Banjos, banjos, banjos--2 or 3 of them--plus piano and tuba, playing sing-along songs and anything else the band can think of. Maybe a bit nuttiness thrown in.

Promenade Orchestra

Two-beat sweet and sassy dance music of the 1930s, played by 8-13 pieces, using vintage dance band arrangements of classic movie and show tunes, and standards--42nd Street, Busby Berkeley, Gershwin, Porter, Fred Astaire, Tin Pan Alley tunes from the golden age of American song--as they were heard on records and radio, in ballrooms and hotels during the period.

Charleston Sheiks Orchestra

The Roaring '20s come to life as the era's unique Charleston danceband sound is recreated by this 8-13 piece group using the original period arrangements. This is delightful music, not the hokey nonsense often heard on more recent records. This band is a splendid alternative for any occasion appropriate for Dixieland, when one wants the same happy spirit but perhaps a different, more "organized" form. (But it can play dixieland on demand or as a change of pace.)

Sultans Big Band

The hits of Miller, Goodman, Shaw, Ellington, Basie, Bob Crosby and a variety of other favorites from the 30s and 40s are played with uncompromising rhythm and verve by this 10-piece band. Small groups within the band change the pace now and then during the evening.
